Daughter of the British aristocrat, Lord Henshingly Croft, Lara Croft, was born and raised to be part of the high society of Britain. At the age of 21, Croft was on a skiing trip, when her plane crashed in the Himalayas, and for two weeks, she was forced to rely on her intelligence and endurance to stay alive, until she was rescued. She was disowned by her family, and has since spent the last eight years traveling the World exploring tombs, temples and the sort. She has been forced to support herself by writing her exploits and obtaining items of historical importance, that some people will pay a high price for.

The Movie takes adventuress and magazine editor, Lara Croft, in pursuit of the death mask of Alexander the Great. The mask was split into three pieces when Alexander's hidden tomb was sealed, so that it would be protected from raiders. The pieces of the mask were then spread around the world. In more modern times Lara actually possess a part of the mask, but she doesn't know it as it is within another relic.

Her part of the mask doesn't come to her attention until a Greek man, Darius, offers to but it off her. Being profession and inquisitive Lara of course refuses to sell the artifact. Unfortunately Darius steals it and Lara sets off after him through London and towards the Millennium Dome, Darius escapes. The story continues and it is explained that Darius wants to find the tomb of Alexander the Great because it is said that Alexander possessed the shield of Achilles, which makes its holder invulnerable. With this information in mind Lara sets off to stop Darius and save the world...
